For the third consecutive year, Maplewood's Super September educational programs include a Sport Horse Conformation Seminar with veterinarians Danny Marks (a Show Jumping Hall of Fame member) and Chrysann Collatos as well as conformation expert and judge Julie Winkel. The Sport Horse Conformation Seminar, which benefits the Goodtoknow Horses 501(c)3, is an approved continuing education clinic for R-rated judges and applicants to fulfill their licensing requirements.

They will analyze and discuss the conformation and athletic attributes of a variety of sport horses, from young prospects to dressage horses, show hunters and Grand Prix jumping veterans. The seminar will include educational seminars, classroom instruction and live judging practice. 

The seminar is also open to all auditors, riders, trainers and anyone interested in learning more about sport horse conformation.

Cost: $600

Thanks to a generous sponsorship, members of the United States Sport Horse Breeders Association (USSHBA) receive a 10 percent discount on tuition!

Monday- 8:30 a.m. in Clubhouse

Participants gather at Maplewood for registration, a Continental Breakfast sponsored by USSHBA, presentations and classroom discussions.

9 a.m. - Noon - Presentation by Dr. Chysann Collatos on general anatomy. 

Noon - 1 p.m. - Lunch

1 p.m. - 5 p.m. - Presentation by Dr. Daniel Marks on characteristics of conformation that create athletic and sound horses in the sport horse world. 


Tuesday - 8:30 a.m. in clubhouse 

The day begins with a Continental Breakfast sponsored by USSHBA, and classroom discussions before participants practice live judging. 

9 a.m. - Noon - Classroom presentations with Dr. Daniel Marks and Julie Winkel regarding Hunter Breeding protocol, rules and judging criteria. 

Noon - 1 p.m. - Lunch

1 p.m. - 4 p.m. - Live judging of foals, broodmares, yearlings, 2- and 3-year-olds. 

4 p.m. - Wrap-up and sign-out in Clubhouse.
